Home to historic, beautiful and interesting artefacts from all around the world, it is full of treasures from different countries, so it´s truly international! The British Museum needs no introduction! Or does it..

If you are interested in how the British Museum came about, you can read the book about it - called 'The Story of the British Museum', available from the British Museum shop. Here, Caygill tells the history of the British Museum from its foundation by Act of Parliament in 1753 to the present day. She has drawn on contemporary newspapers, journals, diaries and the Museum's own archives to bring to life the personalities - the eccentric, the brilliant and the not-so-brilliant - who have peopled the Museum's galleries and imbued it with its own distinctive character.

The other things I personally like are the replica busts and statues, some of them full size. I can imagine seeing one casually placed among tropical greenery in an expat garden and being a real conversation piece! The British Museum of course DOES deliver abroad! So if I´ve got you interested in looking at all the amazing things they sell, just click on the bust above or the mummies below, which are just some of the many exquisitely beautiful things they can send you.

They certainly have the most wonderful gift shop there, where I´ve personally spent many hours in person in London, buying the most beautiful things down the ages, and not all of them  expensive. One thing that caught my fancy here today was a replica of a real medieval cross necklace which was unearthed having originally been buried  with gold coins and jewellery in 1464 at Fishpool, Nottinghamshire during the wars of the Roses. it is likely that the items were hidden for safe-keeping at that time.

The original medieval cross has 4 rectangular heavy amethysts filling in each of the four chunky arms of the cross and a ruby in  too .. The replica contains glass coloured stones but quite honestly you´d be pushed to tell the difference, and it´s really beautiful...timeless.. and inexpensive and stylish..

What  fantastic gifts some of these things would make for someone who loves history and archaeology or anyone who appreciates true class and style.. and if you happen to be in Egypt reading this wishing you had more room in your suitcase for Egyptian souvenirs, or if you wanted to send someone a present from Egypt and you´re fed up to the eyeballs with the craziness of bartering in Egypt and possibly even being chased by desperate vendors down the street as happened to me several times there, well don´t worry, you can order them here and get them delivered anywhere you want, and save yourself all the trouble!
These are fantastic, quality gifts. Once you´re on the British Museum Shop site, you can search for the kind of gift you like ie type in 'bust' and all the different busts they sell will come up! Or perhaps you´d prefer an Egyptian Cat..or even Anubis the Egyptian dog?  They have those too! Or look at their top 10 best sellers.. You´ll find a lot of wonderful things there.
